• Direct characterization is when a character's traits are stated directly to the reader

• Indirect characterization is when the reader infers a character's traits based on the author's clues

• In a graphic novel, a character's appearance is presented directly to the audience because the text is illustrated.

  • On the other hand, indirect characterization still requires you to combine text evidence and background knowledge to make a conclusion.

  • In a previous lesson, you brainstormed at least two topics you would consider for your PSA.

  • Now, you need to officially decide on one in order to determine your keywords for research.

• Once you have selected your topic and identified key words, start searching!

• Spend the next 10 minutes using some of your keywords to find online sources

  • Today, you just want to identify one or two possible sources.

  • Save the websites you find useful to use in a future lesson
