Energy Lesson

What is energy?

Energy is what helps living things work. When you move a finger or when a car moves, energy is being used to do that work

Energy can be...

Energy stored inside an object to be used later is called potential energy.

Potential

Chemical

Mecanical

Electrical energy is used all the time. This type of energy is used to run computers, TVs, video games and toys.

Electrical

Objects in motion have kinetic energy, as when you walk or run.

Kinetic

Light is a form of energy that plants take from the sun and use to make their own food.

Solar

Heat is thermal energy. It is used to cook and to warm houses.

Thermal

Renewable Sources of Energy

power is the energy we make from moving water.

Hydroelectric

We get solar energy from the sun. This is the source or energy living thing use most.

Solar

energy is the heat inside the Earth. It is used to warm houses

Geothermal

is moving air. The energy from the wind is used to sail ships, water fields and make electricity.
