Nancy is making a quilt. She needs to buy 7/8 yd of cloth for part of the quilt. The cloth sells for $5.75/yd. To determine the cost of the purchase, Nancy converts the number of yards that she wants to buy to a decimal. What is the decimal value?

Fill in the Blank

Write the fraction as division.

7/8=7÷8

Write the fraction as the numerator divided by the denominator.

  • Use long division to divide 7 by 8. Write the dividend as a decimal. Add zeros after the decimal point in the dividend until there is no remainder or until the remainder divided by the divisor results in a repeating decimal in the quotient.
