Argumentative writing is the opinion, or belief, of an author, presented in a text meant to convince the reader that the opinion is correct.
the author’s argument is called the claim. In an argumentative text, the author uses words and pharses to prove the claim.
The way an author uses words and phrases to create their argument is called the text structure.

Techniques are the ways an author uses language and text structures to persuade a reader to agree with his or her claim.

Evidence is a key element of argumentative writing and includes facts, statistics, images, interviews, or other texts.
Authors of argumentative texts use evidence to show that they have done research on their subject and that their claim is reliable.

Reasoning -an explanation of how a piece of evidence supports a claim.
Authors of argumentative texts rely on reasoning to give their evidence purpose and assure their audience understands why a piece of evidence is significant.

Rhetorical Devices -particular methods of speaking or writing used to persuade people to consider alternative ideas about claims and information.
Some rhetorical devices make an emotional appeal to readers.
Author’s of argumentative texts use rhetorical devices to reinforce their arguments, such as repeating phrases.
One example of a rhetorical device is an emotional appeal—using words that will cause readers or listeners to have an emotional reaction.
