Voltage Vs Current
2
Voltage and current are two fundamental concepts in electrical engineering and physics. Although they are related, they have different meanings and properties.
What is Voltage and Current
3
Voltage, also known as electric potential difference, is the measure of the electrical energy between two points in an electrical circuit.
It is measured in volts and is represented by the symbol "V".
Voltage can be thought of as the force that drives the flow of electric charge, similar to how water flows through a pipe under pressure.
Voltage provides the energy necessary to move electrons through a circuit.
Voltage
Current is the measure of the flow of electric charge in an electrical circuit.
It is typically measured in amperes and is represented by the symbol "A".
Current can be thought of as the amount of charge that flows through a wire or component in a given amount of time.

Difference between Voltage &Current
Feature | Voltage | Current |
|---|---|---|
Definition | Measure of electric potential difference between two points in a circuit | Measure of the flow of electric charge in a circuit |
Symbol | V | A |
Unit | Volt | Ampere |
Measured with | Voltmeter | Ammeter |
Representation | V = IR (Ohm's Law) | I = V/R (Ohm's Law) |
Relationship | Voltage drives current | Current flows due to voltage |
Effect on circuit | Affects the amount of current that flows | Determines the amount of power consumed by the circuit |
Properties | Can be positive or negative, can vary in magnitude | Always flows from positive to negative, must be conserved in a circuit |
