IMPORTANCE OF WATER TO MANKIND.
Basic human needs
Sustaining life
Water is the fundamental
building block of all living
organisms. It makes up
approximately 60% of the
human body and is essential
for the proper functioning of
cells, tissues, and organs.
Water is necessary for
drinking, cooking, bathing,
and maintaining proper
hygiene. Access to clean
water is a basic human right
and a critical component of
public health.
Agricultural and food production
Water is essential for the growth
and cultivation of crops, as well as
for the watering of livestock.
Irrigation and water management
are crucial for maintaining global
food security.
Sanitation and disease prevention
Access to clean water and
proper sanitation systems is
essential for preventing the
spread of waterborne diseases,
such as cholera, dysentery, and
typhoid.

WHAT IS POLLUTION OF WATER?
● Water pollution is the contamination of water
which has a negative impact on their use.
● It is usually an effect of human activities
● It makes water unsafe for human use and
disrupts aquatic ecosystems.
● Water pollution can be caused by many different
contaminants, from toxic waste to disease
causing organisms.
6
NEGATIVE EFFECT OF WATER POLLUTION
● Destruction of biodiversity/Ecosystem disturbance
● Contamination of the food chain
● Spread of water-borne diseases
● Lack of potable water
● Loss of recreational opportunities
● Habitat destruction
7
WHAT IS TREATMENT OF WATER?
Water treatment is the process of
removing contaminants and
impurities from water to produce
water that is suitable for a
specific purpose, such as drinking,
industrial use, or irrigation.
8
WAYS OF TREATING WATER FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION.
Coagulation:Aluminium
sulfate and chlorine
dioxide are added to the
water to make the
particles clump together
Filtration: Removes particles,
microorganisms, and some
dissolved substances using
various filtration media, such
as sand, gravel, or membranes.
Biofiltration: Uses
microorganisms to break
down and remove organic
matter, nutrients, and
some contaminants from
the water.
Sedimentation:The
purpose of the
sedimentation process is to
remove suspended solids
(particles) that are denser
(heavier) than water and to
reduce the particulate load
in the water
Softening: Removes
dissolved calcium and
magnesium ions,
reducing the water's
hardness.

CONCLUSION
Water is vital to life as it poses great
benefits to the whole world.
Water pollution only produces negative
results to humans, animals, plants and any
other organism.
It is therefore required for water to be
properly treated before it is used for any
purpose whatsoever.
