Properties of Math

#1 Associative Property

When more than two numbers are added or multiplied, the result is the same regardless of how they are grouped.
For example, 2 + (4 + 3) = 3 + (4 + 2)

4

Properties of Math

#2 Commutative Property

The order in which numbers are added or multiplied does not change the result.
For example, 2 + 9 = 9 + 2 or 3 x 5 = 5 x 3.

Properties of Math

#3 Disributive Property

When a number is multiplied by the sum of two or more numbers, the result is the same as multiplying the number by each addend individually and then adding the products together. This property also applies to subtraction.
For example, 3(5 + 1) = 3(5) + 3(1) and 3(5 + 1) = 3(6).

Properties of Math

#4 Identity Property

When any number is combined with the identity element, either 0 or 1, the result is the number itself. This property applies to addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division
For example, 3 x 1 = 3 or 5 - 0 = 5.
