2
Newtons Second Law
SWBAT Calculate force, by the given mass and acceleration of objects by the end of the period.
3
-Measure in NEWTONS (N)
- Ex: The car's engine has a 50N force.
FORCE
How much something weighs
Units can be in
Kilograms (Kg)
Grams (g)
pounds (Lb)
MASS
Acceleration is a change in speed.
Units in m/s2
Acceleration
4
Why is the second Law important?
The Second Law integrates force, mass and acceleration.
Think about it. which will require more force, a cart with a mass of 30kg or a cart with a mass of 100kg?
If I have two carts with a mass of 40kg. Which one will accelerate more, the one where I apply 100N or the one where I apply 400N?
Direct relationship between force and Acceleration
5
Multiple Choice
Which of these requires more Force to move?
The car
The truck
6
Multiple Choice
Which of these will accelerate more if the same force is applied to all of them
Soccer ball
Bowling ball
Baseball
7
Newtons Second law is Force= Mass x Acceleration
Example:
? N
40 g
100 m/s2
Calculating Force
8
A car has a mass of 400pounds, and it accelerated 240m/s2 what is the force of the car?
Finding Force
A boxer punches with a 70N. The acceleration of the punch is 20m/ss what is the mass of the punch?
Finding Mass
Mr. Davila's car is racing. The car has a mass of 230 pounds. The force of the engine is 600N. What is the acceleration of the Car?
