Today we will be learning about word sounds, letter friendships, and the difference between regular and Irregular words.

  1. Define What Verbs, Adjectives, Nouns, Proper Nouns, Concrete Nouns, and Abstract Nouns are.

  2. Identify letter/sound relationships.

  3. Recognize what regular and irregular words, and what patterns they follow.

Verbs are words that help to describe the actions happening in a sentence. They can describe the action the Noun is doing.

Example: Jenny walked to the store.

Verbs

Adjectives are words that help desribe the Noun, or help to define it further. Think of Adjectives as description words.

Example: Jenny wore a scratchy shirt.

Adjectives

Nouns are the subjects of sentences. Think of them as the head Honchos. They're what Adjectives and Verbs are often describing, and come in different variation.

Abstract nouns are words that describe ideas rather than tangible objects or people. Nouns that describe people, or places are called Proper Nouns.

Example (abstract): The boy was sad.
Example (proper): Mr. Beck is a student teacher.

​Concrete Nouns are nouns that describe tangible things, like tables, chairs, lights, cars, and anything you can physically feel.
