How Do We Define Energy?
Energy is the ability to cause a change. It also defined as the ability to do work!
Work is done when a force moves an object through a distance. This energy is primarily measured in Joules.
Walking around the class uses energy, which is measured in Joules!
3
Two Types of Energy
Kinetic Energy is defined as the energy of motion; of objects, waves, electrons, atoms, molecules, and other substances.
The more mass an object has, the more kinetic energy it has.
The equation is as follows: KE = 1/2mv2
4
Two Types of Energy
Potential Energy is energy that is stored and held in readiness. Energy can be stored due to an object's change in shape, position, or chemical composition.
Example: When you raise a book up high, you give the object potential energy
5
Gravities Effect on Energy
Gravitational potential energy depends on the height of the object above the Earth.
Any object near Earth's gravitational pull, is affected by 9.8 m/s2
The Equation Is: GPE = mgh
