These roots help us figure out words we may not understand.
Affixes are added to the beginning or end of a root word to to change the meaning.

For instance, if we know auto- means "self", bio- means "life", and graph means "writing", we understand autobiography means a book you write about your own life.
Even autograph can be split into "auto" (self) and "graph" (writing) to make your signature on something!
