There are 2 Forms of Autocracy:

​Monarchy

​A form of government with a monarch at the head.

• Absolute

  a. King/Queen has complete power; ULTIMATE AUTHORITY

  b. Monarch acts as head of state & govt.

• Constitutional (MORE COMMON)

  a. King/Queen shares power with elected legislature

  b. Acts as head as state only

  c. In charge of DIPLOMATIC duties

  EX: Sweden

  Spain

• Probably the oldest type of government. 

• The power and authority to rule are in the

  hands of a single individual.

  • Ex:

    a. Adolf Hitler-Germany

    b. Joseph Stalin- Russia​

​AUTOCRACY

​Democracy

A democracy​ is a form of govt in which citizens hold the political power.

2 Forms​:

1. Rep​resentative

   a. Citizens elect leaders to represent them

   B. Citizen don't have dealings w/ the day to day decicions

2. Direct​: Citizens are directly involved in the work of govern​ing

​OLIGARCHY

A small group of people hold ALL power and they often suppress opposition. 

• They are NOT elected

• Do both MILITARY & GOVT Work​

Their power comes from:

• Wealth

• Military position

• Social position (family)

• Religious position

  EX: Junta​: Small group of military officers that take over and rule a country by force.

3. Oligarchy

• Form of govt built on spiritual belief

• Followers do NOT elect leaders, rather they are chosen by God or a divine being.

• Less common​

Iran

ANARCHY​

​

• ​A belief system that REJECTS government authority

• No central government

• No laws, No Rules, NO LAW ENFORCEMENT

• People have complete FREEDOM,

  however, no laws leads to chaos (no bueno!)
