Dialogue

Dialogue is the term for the words that people say or the thoughts that people have.

When we write, we put dialogue in quotation marks “ ”.

Dialogue in a text is used to develop the events in the chapter and show the responses of characters to situations.

Dialogue- conversation between two or more people as a feature of a book, play, or movie

How do authors (writers) describe a character using dialogue?

• Example:

  Two,” he said, “She had red hair and freckles.”

• “Just like me,” I said. “Just like you,” the preacher nodded.

It is important to note that authors use dialogue tags to reveal how a character responds or reacts to events in a story.

• Dialogue Tag: a small phrase either before, after, or in between the dialogue itself
