What is Cellular Respiration?
This is the process where cells will break down glucose to release energy for the cell to use. This will happen inside of the mitochondria and produce carbon dioxide, water, and ATP, which is the energy source of the cell.
3
Multiple Choice
Why does it break down glucose?
To release energy
To make carbon dioxide
because of the cells ATP
4
ATP is the chemical energy. It provides energy to support processes in the living cell.
What is ATP?
5
The 3 steps:
There are three steps to this operation to make cellular respiration work.
6
Multiple Choice
How many steps are there?

7
Step 1
This is glycolysis, glycolysis is a metabolic pathway, it converts glucose into pyruvate, in most organisms it occurs in the liquid parts of cells.
8
Step 2
This is the citric acid cycle, it serves as the mitochrondiral hub for the final steps of fatty acids, and amino acids. It's a series of chemical reactions to release stored energy through the oxidation.
9
Step 3
This would be oxidative phosphorylation, this is a cellular process which reduces oxygen to generate high energy phosphate bonds in the form of adenosine triphosphate.
10
Multiple Select
What two acids are involved in the citric acid cycle?
fatty acids
citric acids
amino acids
none of these
11
Multiple Choice
what does oxidative phosphate reduce?
citric acid
oxygen
water
sunlight
12
There are many different names you should be informed about when discussing this such as: The krebs cycle, tricarboxylic cycle, and (TCA) cycle.
