1

1-6 solving complex linear equations

2

planning a solution

  • know your enemy- does the equation have distribution, combine like terms, variables on the same side of the equal sign?

  • Remember, plan what you are going to do and trust your skills

3

Multiple Choice

What is the only step you can not do first.

53(2x+4)2=3(7x)5(2x+7)125-3\left(2x+4\right)-2=3\left(7-x\right)-5\left(2x+7\right)-12

1

multiply -3(2x+4)

2

do 5-3

3

add 2 to both sides of the equation

4

add 12 to both sides of the equation

4

5−3(2x+4)−2=3(7−x)−5(2x+7)−12

  • A good plan is to always distribute first

  • 5-6x-12-2=21-3x-10x-35-12

  • then combine like terms

  • -6x-9 = -13x-26

  • get the variable on 1 side of the equal sign

  • 7x-9 = -26

  • get rid of the constant on same side as the variable
