​Expository = Discursive and Argumentative

For Semester 1, the focus is on Discursive essay (i.e pros and cons, 2 sided essays)

Expository Essay Key Points

• Introduction

• Body paragraphs (3-4 paragraphs)- 4 paragraphs if the question centres on advantages disadvantages type

• Conclusion

• Focus on the TOPIC

• Formal writing, no personal examples or pronouns.

Introduction

• Start with a hook ( Quote, Fact/Statistic)

• The entire introduction for a discursive essay must be focused on both sides of the topic.

• Body paragraphs should always start with a topic sentence (POINT).

• Stick to ONE idea and ensure the idea is consistently discussed.

• After your topic sentence (POINT), provide at least ONE FACTUAL example and elaborate/explain.
