China and Taiwan

China is a communist country. It has been communist since the Chinese Civil War in which the Communist party headed by Mao Zedong defeated the Nationalist Party headed by Chaing Kai-shek. The Nationalist party fled to the island of Taiwan and started the Republic of China there.

Mao Zedong started the People's Republic of China. Mao was responsible for the Great Leap Forward that ended up starving millions to death.

Social

History: Chinese Dynasties and Japanese Feudalism

For centuries China was ruled by dynasties (ruling families). The Chinese civilization is known for many discoveries and inventions. For example, they invented gunpowder, woodblock printing, and the magnetic compass.

Japanese Feudalism was a way to organize society. For centuries, the Emperor was at the top but he had little power. Instead the Shogun had the power and distributed land to Daimyo. The Samurai were the warriors who protected the land. The peasants worked the land.
