Characteristics of Protists

• Eukaryotic

• Usually unicellular, but can be multicellular

• Any organism NOT classified as a plant, animal, fungus, or bacteria

Methods of Movement

Three main types of locomation:

Flagella -- whip-like "tail" Cilia -- tiny hairs along the cell Psuedopod -- cell pours cytoplasm into "false foot" to move

Notice the lack of cilia and flagellum. The extensions from the cell are the psuedopods.

Cilia

Notice the tiny hairs surrounding the cell. This is the cilia.
