what is
Air is made up of invisible gases. You
cannot see air, but it surrounds us all the
time.
The gases that make up air are called
nitrogen and oxygen.
Most living things, including plants,
animals, and humans need oxygen to live.
If we cannot see it, how do we know that air surrounds us?
We can feel the movement of air as wind.
What does wind feel like, sound like, and smell like?

Air is a very important part of our environment.
All living things on Earth need air because it gives oxygen.
Oxygen gives us energy to run around.
Humans breathe in air through the nose and mouth. Our
lungs bring fresh out into our bodies and take out stale air.
Plants breathe through their leaves.
The plants and trees help to clean our air.
List five things that need air to survive.

what is
Water is a clear, colourless, odourless, and
tasteless liquid.
Clear means you can see through it.
Colourless means it does not have a colour.
However, we usually say that water is blue.
Odourless means water does not have a smell.
Tasteless means water does not have a flavour
when you drink it.
What are some other ways that you could describe water?

Water is needed by both plants and animals.
Water helps our bodies to work properly and stay healthy.
Water also increases our energy.
Water is a place to live for many living things like fish and
plants.
Water can be found in rivers.
Where else can we find
water in nature?
Draw a picture of something
that lives in the water.

The earth has been recycling water for 4 billion years. That
means you are drinking the same water that woolly mammoths,
dinosaurs, and the first humans drank.
Water moves between rivers, lakes, the ocean, the air, and the
land in a cycle. It is called the water cycle.
Colour in the water cycle!

Evaporation is when water
turns from a liquid to a gas.
When water changes to a gas,
it is called water vapour.
Water changes into vapour
when it is heated.
In nature, the sun causes water to evaporate. Humans
can make water evaporate when they boil water.
Humans can boil water using a stove, kettle, or over
the fire.
__________________ causes water to turn to gas.
Water in a gas state is called water ________________ .
In nature, the __________________ causes water to
evaporate.

Condensation is when water
turns from a gas (vapour) to a
liquid.
When water vapour cools, it
changes state into a liquid.
Condensation is the opposite
of evaporation!
In nature, water vapour rises into the sky where it is
much cooler than on the surface of the earth. The
water vapour cools to the point where it changes
state into a liquid. This forms clouds.
__________________ is when water vapour to turn to liquid.
Condensation is the opposite of __________________ .
In nature, __________________ are formed in the sky.

Precipitation is when water
falls from the sky.
Water collects in the sky in
clouds. Eventually, the clouds
are so heavy with water that
they have to release the water
as precipitation.
In nature, precipitation can release in the clouds as a
solid or liquid. Rain is precipitation as a liquid. Snow
and hail are precipitation in a solid state.
__________________ causes us to have snow and rain.
Precipitation can release as a solid or __________________ .
Precipitation comes after __________________ in the water
cycle.
