A quadrilateral is a plane figure with 4 sides and 4 angles. There are many different kinds of quadrilaterals, some of which are shown in the chart below. You can classify and sort quadrilaterals into different groups.​

​Some shapes can be classified in multiple ways because it fits the properties of each shape. For example a rhombus has to have four equal sides. A square has to have 4 equal sides and 4 right angles. So a square has to be a rhombus but a rhombus does not have to be a square.
