Light, Lenses and Mirrors
2
Optics is the study of how light interacts with the eye. If you have a problem with your eyesight, you can go and see a special doctor, an optometrist.
What are lenses
3
A lens is a clear piece of glass or plastic that refracts light. Lenses have one more curved surfaces. Lenses are used to make objects appear larger or smaller. Lenses are commonly used eyeglasses, cameras, telescopes and other tools.
4
Convex lenses bend light inwards. All light rays enter horizontally and are bend, meeting at focal point behind the lens. Rays farthest from the center are bend the most. People with hypermetropia need to wear glasses with this type of lens.
Convex Lens
Concave lenses bend light outwards. Light rays passing through the ends of the lens are bend the most, while rays passing through the middle aren’t bend at all. Rays do not meet behind the lens. People with myopia need this type of lens.

What can you use to see if you are well groomed? Mirrors are objects that reflect light, maintaining most of its original characteristics. The common mirror is called is a plane mirror because it has a flat surface. Curved mirrors change the image and reflect light. Convex mirrors, for example, help to see objects bigger than they actually are. Mirrors are used by humans for personal use, decoration, in architecture and for scientific purposes. For example, they are used to research the universe with telescopes and cameras.
