 The midpoint of a segment is the point that divides the segment into TWO CONGRUENT segments. 


Remember: Congruent means equal!

Since M is the midpoint, it creates TWO equal distances.

Set the two distances equal to each other.

Tick marks mean the distances are the same.

Steps to solve

  1. Set the two tick mark expressions equal to each other.
  2. 4x - 1 = 3x + 3
  3. Solve for x, use algebra skills.
  4. Plug x into the length we are trying to find.
