Dialogue: Quotation Marks

  • Dialogue is when one or more character's are talking out loud.

  • In a comic book we would use dialogue boxes (see picture)

  • Quotation marks show us exactly what a character is saying.

  • Mr. Lemoi says, "These two little lines are called quotation marks. Use them so you know when characters are speaking."

Dialogue Tags

  • Show us WHO is speaking and HOW they are speaker

  • Mr. Lemoi whispered, "Why am I whispering?"

  • "Because I don't want to yell all the time," Mr. Lemoi explained.

  • "BUT SOMETIMES" Mr. Lemoi shouted, "I DO LIKE TO SHOUT!"

  • You know who is speaker (Mr. Lemoi) and how he is speaking (whispering, explaining, shouting).
