What are possessive nouns?

They show ownership

  • SINGULAR POSSESSIVE NOUN

    • Shows that ONE PERSON, place or thing has or owns something.

  • PLURAL POSSESSIVE NOUN

    • Shows that MORE THAN ONE person, place or thing has or owns something.

HOW DO I DO THIS?

For singular nouns

To make a singular noun show possession, add an apostrophe (') and -s.

baby - baby's crib student - student's pencil
dog - dog's bone teacher - teacher's computer

HOW DO I DO THIS?

For plural nouns THAT END IN -S

To make a plural noun show possession.

If the plural noun ends in -s, add an apostrophe at the end (')

soldiers - soldiers' uniforms teachers - teachers' chairs
students - students' desks pens - pens' tips

For plural nouns that DO NOT END IN -S

To make a plural noun show possession.

If the plural noun does not ends in -s, add an apostrophe (') and -s

men - men's shoes geese - geese's feathers
women - women's dresses mice - mice's whiskers
