Prepositions of time

In, On, At, From... to

​In/On/At/From ... to

We use prepositions of time to make common time expressions.

​

Examples => ​In the morning => At the weekend => From Monday to Sunday => On Tuesday

​

​We often use these time expressions at the start or the end of a sentence. We use a comma if we use them at the start.

We us the plural to say that we do something all those days​ (weekends => Mondays => Mornings)

Example: ​In January => In September

​We use In + the to talk about parts of the day and seasons of the year.

Example: ​In the morning/s => In the evening/s => In the winter => In the spring

We use On to talk about days of the week and parts of the day.

Example: On Monday/s => On Thursday​/s => On Saturday morning/s => On Friday evening/s

We use at to talk about time, midnight/midday/night, the weekend and festivals

Example: ​At 7.30 am => At midday => At the weekend => At Christmas => At New Year

We can say ​On Friday night, but not In the night

We use from ... to to talk about time, years, months and days.

Example: From March to November => From Monday to Friday => From 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm
