A.NR.5.1 - Rewrite algebraic and numeric expressions involving radicals
A.NR.5.2 - Using numerical reasoning, show and explain that the sum or product of rational numbers is rational, the sum of a rational number and an irrational number is irrational, and the product of a nonzero rational number and an irrational number is irrational.
A.MM.1.1 - Explain applicable, mathematical problems using a mathematical model.
A.MM.1.4 - Use various mathematical representations and structures with this information to represent and solve real-life problems

A rational number is the one which can be represented in the form of P/Q where P and Q are integers and Q ≠ 0. But an irrational number cannot be written in the form of simple fractions. ⅔ is an example of a rational number whereas √2 is an irrational number
the irrational numbers (in- + rational) are all the real numbers that are not rational numbers. That is, irrational numbers cannot be expressed as the ratio of two integers. When the ratio of lengths of two line segments is an irrational number, the line segments are also described as being incommensurable, meaning that they share no "measure" in common, that is, there is no length ("the measure")
