This unit introduces students to an important period in the history of the
United States. Students will examine the sequence of events leading to the
American Revolution and what happened during the war itself. It is
important to note that some chapters may contain graphic depictions of war
scenes and other sensitive topics related to conflict. It is recommended to
review all content before presenting it to students.

The curds are the beginnings of cheese. The curds are cut. Next the
curds and whey are cooked. Then the curds are removed from the
whey. After that, salt is added. The salt gives flavor. It also helps
the cheese last longer. Finally, the curds are pressed into blocks or
round forms.

Up until this point, all block cheese is made pretty much the same
way. But now, some kinds of cheese have different flavors added,
such as spices, vegetables, and bacon. Some types of cheese are
stretched. Another possibility is to add food coloring. The cheese
then ages in temperature-controlled conditions. Some kinds of
cheese take only one month to age, while others can take more
than a year. No matter how long a cheese ages, aging gives the
cheese better flavor.
