Onomatopoeia
Start your essay with a BANG!
Sound words used to create excitement, interest, or to just catch the readers attention.
Use lots of punctuation, and have lots of fun with it.
Ex. Bang! Pow! Bop! Crash!

Personal Anecdotes
Tell a story from your past that relates to the topic.
Used to relate the reader with the author, also relates reader to the subject.
Creates emotional ties from the reader to the subject.
Ex. It was a cold August day the first time I ate a chocolate chip cookie.

Rhetorical Questions
Begin with a question!
Ask the audience a question that you know they can't answer!
Creates interest by making the audience think about things they didn't think about before.
Ex. Have you ever had the word's greatest cookie?

Use stats to bolster your argument.
Used to create a factual basis for your

Compare your subject to another thing using metaphors!
Metaphors compare things to other things WITHOUT using like or as.
Makes audience think about subject through a creative viewpoint.
Ex. Chocolate chip cookies are the golden nectar from mount Olympus.
