WHAT IS A SOLID?

firm and stable in shape [hard or rigid]

3

PROPERTIES OF A SOLID

  • fixed shape

  • fixed volume

  • hard and rigid

  • cannot flow

  • cannot be compressed easily

  • solid does not diffuse into another solid easily

4

SOLID EXAMPLES:

All these objects/solids have properties of a solid and can be identifies as a "solid".

1 property of a solid is that it :

1

can be compressed easily

2

can flow

3

is rigid and hard

6

WHAT IS A LIQUID?

A liquid is a nearly incompressible fluid that conforms to the shape of its container but retains a (nearly) constant volume independent of pressure.

7

PROPERTIES OF A LIQUID

  • a definite volume.

  • has no definite shape and acquires the shape of the container

  •  compressible

  • is much slower as compared to the diffusion of gases.

8

LIQUID EXAMPLES:

liquids can flow and can be slightly compressed , it takes a longer time for diffusion to happen than a gas.
