Novel study week 4

​Objectives :

​A: explore how to provide details that support their inferences about the character

B: evaluate how a character changes through the course of the story

C: use precise vocabulary to compare the character and support their analysis

D: analyze how the author develops characters and its effect on the reader, events and outcomes of the story

​Asset questions:

​Auggie sudden revelation about Jack and his friendship?.

How must be Auggie feeling right now? Is Jack justified in his behavior?. What do you think Auggie might end up doing?  

If you’ve read the book or Wonder movie, you may remember that there’s something called the Wonder precepts.​

​PRECEPTS :

​Precepts are general rules or guiding principles that direct how you should act or behave.

An example of a precept is “Expect the best, but prepare for the worst.”

​Activity:

​Brainstorm different precepts and creating some of your own.

Choose one precept from the novel and write a post card to your friend.

How do the children think that Auggie would have felt when Jamie screamed and ran away from him?

Fill in the outline of Auggie’s face on resource 1: INSIDE AUGGIE with things that Auggie might be feeling and thinking at that moment. Remind the children that we already know from LESSON ONE that just because someone looks different on the outside, it doesn’t mean that they’re not ordinary on the inside.
