Rate is a ratio of two measures. The word "per" is often associated with rates.
Here are some real-world situations where rates are used • finding gas mileages. • finding total wages given an hourly salary. • finding athletes’ speeds.
In this lesson, we will be solving real world problems using rates.

Why is it important to include the units of measure and time in the ratio box?
The labels on the ratio box will help us confirm what unit the answer represents. Since the unknown value d is in the distance (mi) row, we know that the answer is 165 miles.
