compatible numbers

Numbers that are close to the given numbers that make estimation or mental calculation easier.

Distributive Property

the property that states that for all real numbers, a, b, and c, a(b+c)=ab+ac, and a(b-c)=ab-ac.

Identity property of Multiplication

the property that states that the product of 1 and any number is that number.

Inverse Property of Multiplication

the property that states that the product of any number and its reciprocal, or multiplicative inverse, is 1

Order of operations

a rule for evaluating expressions: first perform operations in parentheses, then compute powers or roots, then multiplication and division from left to right, and then perform addition and subtraction from left to right.
