6.2.1

• This unit investigated if people are more effective when they work as individuals or as a group by answering the question, Are we better together?

• In this unit, you read some intense texts in which groups of people have to work together.

• For example:

  • The Finest Hours, people work together to escape two shipwrecks

  • “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street,” you saw the negative consequences of people's rumors creating a mob mentality.

Human and Society Unit

• This unit took a close look at the expected and unexpected ways you affect other people as you investigated the unit inquiry question, How do I affect other people? 

• We read the texts:

  • "At 15 Scientist Gitanjali Rao made history," "Hear That," "Pop Art," "The Young Sor Juana," "The Moustache," and "The Chicken That Crossed the Road"

Growth Unit

• The primary goal of Lit Circles was to encourage you to read, analyze, and discuss books with your peers.

• You picked from a variety of novels, and at the end of the literature circle, you answered the inquiry question, What can literature teach you about yourself and the world around you?

Literature Circle Unit

• In this unit, you learned about the advantages and disadvantages of relying on technology to answer this unit’s inquiry question: What is technology’s future? 

• We focused on the texts:

  • "Flying Cars," "Medical Marvels," "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace," and "The Veldt"

Technology Unit

• In this unit, you studied three long-form texts that discuss how environmental changes and historical events impact the future.

• In this unit, you studied the past and present in order to answer the question: How does society influence the next generation? 

• We read the texts:

  • "The Surrender Tree," "Changing Planet," "Melting Away" podcast, and "A Girl Called Echo"

Natural World Unit

• To finish up your ELA course, you will complete the “A Year in Review” activity to reflect on your interests, successes, and skills from this school year

• Download the slides from page 8 of today's edio lesson to complete the activity. You are filling out both slides 1 and 2!
