The Earth's surface is covered by 20 huge plates of land. These are called tectonic plates. The tectonic plates float on top of the liquid rock that forms the Earth's mantle.

They are constantly moving but quite slowly.

Over time, they slide over, bump into or separate from each other.

Each time this happens, the ground shakes. This is an earthquake.

Permukaan Bumi ditutupi oleh 20 lempeng daratan yang sangat besar. Lempeng-lempeng ini disebut lempeng tektonik. Lempeng-lempeng tektonik mengapung di atas batuan cair yang membentuk mantel Bumi. When a large earthquake occurs under the ocean, it can sometimes cause a tsunami. A tsunami is a long wave that travels very quickly and for long distances across the ocean. When a tsunami reaches land, it can cause flooding and lots of damage to buildings.

Gempa bumi besar yang terjadi di bawah laut terkadang dapat menyebabkan tsunami. Tsunami adalah gelombang panjang yang bergerak sangat cepat dan menempuh jarak yang jauh melintasi lautan. Ketika tsunami mencapai daratan, tsunami dapat menyebabkan banjir dan banyak kerusakan pada bangunan.
