Guru Nanak

Guru Nanak was the first of the Ten Gurus, the founder of Sikhism.

​ He was born in Punjab in 1469 and died in 1539.

​He was born into a Hindu family, attended a school where he studied Islamic.

His teachers said that he was an extraordinary student, whose knowledge was great.

​Guru Nanak married at 16 and had two sons. He then got a job as an accountant for a Muslim businessman in order to look after his family.

Every morning, he and his friend Mardana, a muslim, would bathe in the river.
