The number of humans on Earth has been rapidly increasing over the last 200 years. The current global population is estimated to be over eight billion people.
What do you think has contributed to there being so many more people on the Earth?

Improvements in medicine have allowed humans to live longer than they have in the past. In many cases, sicknesses that may have resulted in death a hundred years ago are now easily treated with medicine.

Many areas of the world have seen increases in the number of babies born yearly. The increased birth rate results from improved medical care during pregnancy and access to resources like food and clean water.
