¿Cuándo? vs. Cuando

• ¿Cuándo?: It is used when asking "When?" in a question.

  • Ex: ¿Cuándo vas a hacer la tarea?

• Cuando: It is used when describing when something that happens at a certain time.

  • Ex: Yo como la ensalada cuando tengo hambre.

Ir + a + place

• We also use the verb ir to say we "are going to go a specific place."

  • When a is followed by el: It becomes the contraction al.

    • Ex: He goes to the gym - Él va al gimnasio.

  • When a is followed by la, los, or las: It stays the same.

    • Ex: I go to the library - Yo voy a la biblioteca.

Ir + a + infinitive verb

• We also use the verb ir to express an action that is going to occur in the near future. In other words, we also use the verb ir to say we "are going to do something".

  • This expression uses two verbs, but only ir is conjugated. The other verb stays in the infinitive (unconjugated) form.

• Ex: Juan and I are going to swim in the pool - Juan y yo vamos a nadar en la piscina.

  • The boys are going to study for the test - Los chicos van a estudiar para el examen.

"On A day of the week"

• In Spanish, you do NOT use en (on) to say what day an event happens. Instead, you use the definite article (el or los).

• When you are talking about one specific day: Use el.

• When you are talking about something that happens regularly on that day every week: Use los.

  • Ex: I go to the library on Thursday. - Yo voy a la biblioteca el jueves.

  • Ex: I go to gym on Fridays. - Yo voy al gimnasio los viernes.
