Generic Counters

We already learnt how to count in Korean. We dscussed the two number systems - Chinese (Sino) and Korean Numbers. Now let's discuss Counters!

The Generic Counter 개 , is the type of counter used for almost everything. We can use this when we are unsure of what counters to use. But DO NOT use it for people, animals, machines, cars...

Why? Well, these items already have their special counters.

NOTE: When using Counters, from 1-99 Korean numbers are used and from 100 above chinese numbers are used.

To say "4 apples", you simply put number + counter AFTER the item.

That is:

APPLE + 4 + COUNTER. And remember what counter we use? that's right! 개!

사과 + 네 + 개

사과 네 개 = 4 Apples!

Other counters:

HUMANS : 명. For respectable people, use: 분 . In restuarant ( for servings) use: 이분


ANIMALS: 마리


CUPS: 잔


BOTTLES: 병
