Present Continuous

• Active : Subject + is/am/are + V(ing) + Object

• Passive: Object + is/am/are being + V3 + by + subject.

• Example:

  Active: He is writing a letter.

  Passive: A letter is being written by him.

  Without Agent : A letter is being written.

How to change Active to Passive?

Present Tense

• Active : Subject + V1 (s/es) + Object

• Passive : Object + is/am/are + v3 + by + Subject.

• Example :

  Active : She reads a book every day.

  Passive : A book is read every day by her.

  Without agent (subject) : A book is read daily/ every day.

Past tense

• Active : Subject + V2 + Object

• Passive : Object + was/were + V3 + by + subject.

• Example :

  Active : They watched the film

  Passive : The film was watched by them.

  Without agent : The film was watched.

Past Continuous

• Active : Subject + was/were + V3 + object.

• Passive : Object + was/were being + V3 + by + subject.

• Example:

  Active : She was cleaning the room.

  Passive : The room was being cleaned by her.

  Without agent : The room was being cleaned.

Future Tense

• Active : Subject + will/won't + V1 + object.

• Passive : Object + will be + V3 + by + subject.

• Example :

  Active : Clara will send the documents tomorrow.

  Passive : The documents will be sent tomorrow by Clara.

  Without agent : The documents will be sent tomorrow.

Try : Active to Passive

1. The technician installed the new software yesterday.

2. She will deliver the presentation after lunch.

3. They are painting the classroom walls today.

4. The chef has prepared a special dessert for the guests.

Passive to Active?

• Passive : Object + v3 + subject.

• Active : Subject + V1/V2/V3 + Object.

  Example:

• Passive : The awards were presented by the principal during the school assembly.

• Active : The Principal presented the awards during the school assembly.

Try : Passive to Active

1. The novel was written by a famous author from Argentina.

2. The proposal was rejected by the committee without explanation.

3. The castle was built by skilled craftsmen in the 16th century.

4. The laptop was repaired by the technician within an hour.
