What is Descriptive Text?
A descriptive text is a type of text that aims to describe a particular person, place, or thing in detail.
It creates a vivid picture in the reader's mind by appealing to their senses (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste).
It focuses on specific characteristics and qualities of the subject.
It answers the question: "What does it look like? What does it feel like? What does it sound like?"
6
Social Function of Descriptive Text
The main social function of a descriptive text is:
To describe a particular person, place, or thing clearly and in detail, so that the reader can visualize or understand it better.
It helps the reader to experience the subject as if they were seeing or experiencing it themselves.
It's like taking someone on a virtual tour or letting them meet someone through words!

Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
A typical descriptive text usually has two main parts:
Identification:
This section introduces the subject that is going to be described.
Example: "The Komodo dragon is a large species of lizard found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang."
Description:
This is the main body of the text where the subject is described in detail.
It includes information about its characteristics, qualities, appearance, habits, behavior, etc.
Example: "It has a long, muscular tail, strong claws, and a forked tongue..."

(Identification)
The Komodo dragon is a large lizard found on the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang in Indonesia. It is the heaviest and largest living lizard in the world, with an average length of 2 to 3 meters. They are powerful predators, known for their size and deadly bite.
(Description)
Komodo dragons have long, flat heads with round snouts and a large, muscular body. Their skin is covered with rough, scaly armor that is brownish-red in color. They have strong, sharp claws that help them hunt and dig holes. Komodo dragons also have a long, forked tongue that they use to taste the air, helping them to find food.
