Linguagem denotativa: também conhecida como linguagem literal, utiliza as palavras no seu sentido básico, conforme definido no dicionário.
Ex: O gato é um animal de estimação.
Ex: A água é fundamental para a vida.
Linguagem conotativa: é um recurso que altera o significado literal da palavras, atribuindo-lhes um significado mais amplo e subjetivo.
Ex: João é um leão.
Ex: Você foi uma água que passou na minha vida.

Pleonasmo
O que é?
Pleonasmo é uma figura de linguagem em que se repete uma ideia já contida na palavra ou expressão, para dar ênfase ou reforçar o sentido.
Exemplo comum (e intencional):
"Eu vi com meus próprios olhos."
— Os olhos já são seus, mas a repetição dá mais força à frase.
MetonímiaO que é?
Metonímia é uma figura de linguagem em que se usa uma palavra no lugar de outra, havendo uma relação de proximidade ou associação entre elas.Exemplo:
TROCAR O AUTOR PELA OBRA."Gosto de ler Machado de Assis."
(Na verdade, gosta dos livros dele.)
