The Pueblo Indians

  • Puebloans are Native American peoples from the desert Southwest—especially northeastern Arizona and northwestern New Mexico

  • They built multi-storied adobe villages (pueblos) using clay, stone, and wood; some are still lived in today

  • Pueblo people are descendants of the ancient Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi) cultures

  • They farmed crops like corn, beans, squash, sunflowers, and also hunted and gathered local foods

  • In 1680, Pueblo people achieved a rare victory against Spanish rule in the Pueblo Revolt—a successful Native uprising
