The Parts of Speech
In grammar, there are 8 parts of speech.
The 8 parts of speech are nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.
There are sometimes a few additional: determiners and articles.

Nouns
Nouns are a person, place, or thing.
Examples include house, dog, car, freedom, and spirit.

Pronouns
Pronouns are any words that take the place of a person or thing.
Examples include he, him, they, them, she, her, it, and I.

Verbs
Verbs are action words.
Action words are just that: an action. Examples include running, jumping, standing, loving, and hiking.

Adjectives
Adjectives modify nouns.
Examples include blue, tall, hairy, and ripe.

Adverbs
Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, adverbs, or sentneces.
Examples include rudely, quite, outside, quickly, and anxiously.

Prepositions
Prepositions can show relationships and tell us location.
Examples include at, on, to, underneath, after, and over.

Conjunctions
Conjunctions are joiners, and connect clauses together.
Examples include and, but, or, when, while, and

Interjections
Interjections are anything exclamatory.
Examples include oh! ow! wow! what!
