• Foil - a character opposite in personality to another character in the story (strong contrast between the characters' strengths and weaknesses)

  • What are some foil characters in Animal Farm?

• Foreboding - hint that something bad is going to happen

• Foreshadowing - an author's use of clues to prepare the reader for events that will happen later in the story

• Motif - a significant word, phrase, image, description, idea, or other element that is repeated throughout a literary work and is related to the theme
