What is the Point-by-Point Method? CORNELL
is a way to write a compare-and-contrast essay. Instead of talking about all of Story A and then all of Story B, you go one idea (point) at a time. For each point, you explain how it happens in both stories.
Example with Percy Jackson and Theseus
Point 1: The Hero
Percy = a modern boy, son of Poseidon.
Theseus = an ancient prince.
Point 2: The Setting
Percy = fights the Minotaur in today’s world.
Theseus = fights in the Labyrinth.
Percy = uses a magical sword.
Theseus = uses strength and Ariadne’s string.
Point 4: The Purpose
Percy = saves his mom and friends.
Theseus = saves Athens.
