What do you already know about our brain?

You can have all the parts of a human: the muscles, bones, blood, and more. However, without the brain, those parts will not function. The brain is necessary to control all of these different components.

Controls all actions of the body, whether conscious or unconscious.

What happens if there is no brain.

The Brain

The brain is the main control center of an animal body. It contains nearly 100 billion neurons!

The brain controls mental processes such as reasoning, imagination, memory, and language. It also interprets information from the senses. In addition, it controls basic physical processes such as breathing and heartbeat.

The brain has three major parts: the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brain stem.

The Brain

Cerebrum: largest part of the brain. Controls conscious functions; reasoning, language, sight, touch, and hearing.

Cerebellum: located in the back of the brain. Controls movement. Helps with posture and balance.

Brain Stem: lowest part of the brain. Connects the brain to the spinal cord. Controls unconscious functions; heart rate and breathing.

The brain is now broken down into 180 different regions.

The temporal lobe is responsible for hearing and understanding speech. This section also helps store related memories.

​This part receives information about touch, pressure, and pain. The parietal lobe is also involved in language, reading, and body awareness.

Parietal Lobe

​At the back of the brain is the occipital lobe. The occipital lobe receives information from the eyes and is responsible for vision.

Protecting the Brain

​The brain is covered by a bony structure called the cranium.

There are also three protective layers covering the brain called meninges. The spaces between these layers are filled with a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid.
