wine. Zeus and Hestia gave Dionysus one of the twelve golden thrones. Along with the great gods, many minor gods lived on Olympus. The goddesses of destiny, or the Fates, were the most powerful. Nemesis, who was their sister, made sure that all good and evil on earth were repaid fairly. Two Titans, Prometheus and Epimetheus, were given the responsibility of creating men and beasts out of clay, since the first men and beasts were killed in the gods' first battles. Prometheus asked Zeus for fire to give to men, but Zeus refused to share the gods' fire with mortals. Prometheus decided to steal fire from Olympus and take it to mankind. Prometheus also helped men to trick Zeus. To punish the humans, Zeus sent them Pandora. Pandora was given a sealed jar and told not to open it but her curiosity caused her to open the jar. Immediately, all kinds of evils previously hidden from mankind emerged and turned mortals evil. They were so evil that Zeus decided to drown them in a flood. Deucalion, the son of Prometheus, was the one man on earth who did not turn evil. Prometheus knew that Zeus was planning a flood, so he encouraged Deucalion to build an ark and take his wife Pyrrha on board with him. After the flood, they entered a temple to worship. There, Zeus told them to throw rocks over their shoulders. From the rocks emerged a score of men and women.
