-Poland was a European powerhouse- got rich selling grain and running busy ports- btw-"spruce"- the word comes from 15th century wher merchants advertised good quality timber saying it is from Prussia [ in Polish z Prus- phonetically: spruce]:)

Seden wanted to take over the control of Baltic trade-lucrative, while Poland struggled with internal tensions: the union between Poland and Lithuania resulting in a Commonwealth state was not working well.
The Swiss swept across Poland several times, looting and burning things which drastically changed the status of Poland and its power
