YOU NEED SOMETHING CALLED "SIMPLE PAST TENSE".

Simple Past Tense digunakan untuk:

1. Menyatakan kejadian atau aktivitas yang sudah terjadi di masa lalu dan sudah selesai.

2. Menjelaskan kebiasaan atau rutinitas di masa lalu yang sekarang tidak dilakukan lagi.

3. Menunjukkan fakta atau keadaan yang benar pada waktu tertentu di masa lampau.

Contoh:

• I served a lot of guests yesterday.

• The restaurant was very busy last night.

• We worked together during the holiday season.

ADA 2 JENIS KALIMAT
SIMPLE PAST

1. Kalimat Verbal (mengandung kata kerja / action)

Rumus:

• (+) Subject + Verb 2 + Object/Complement

• (–) Subject + did not (didn’t) + Verb 1

• (?) Did + Subject + Verb 1 + … ?

Contoh dalam konteks F&B:

2. Kalimat Nominal (menggunakan to be: was / were)

Digunakan jika tidak ada kata kerja utama, melainkan deskripsi keadaan, perasaan, atau situasi.

Rumus:

• (+) Subject + was/were + Complement

• (–) Subject + was/were + not + Complement

• (?) Was/Were + Subject + Complement ?

Keterangan Waktu (Time Expressions) dalam Simple Past Tense

last night	tadi malam	We had many guests last night.
last week	minggu lalu	The restaurant was closed last week.
last month	bulan lalu	He worked in another café last month.
last year	tahun lalu	We opened our new restaurant last year.
two days ago	dua hari yang lalu	The chef prepared that menu two days ago.
three hours ago	tiga jam yang lalu	The bartender made the cocktail three hours ago.
a few minutes ago	beberapa menit yang lalu	I took the guest’s order a few minutes ago.
just now	barusan	The waiter cleaned the table just now.
this morning	tadi pagi	We had a staff meeting this morning.

Keterangan waktu tidak spesifik (unspecific past time)

Dipakai jika waktu tidak disebutkan dengan jelas, tetapi sudah dipahami bahwa peristiwa terjadi di masa lalu.

before	sebelumnya	I worked in a hotel before.
when I was a trainee	ketika saya masih trainee	I served guests when I was a trainee.
a long time ago	dulu sekali	Our chef trained in Japan a long time ago.
once	sekali (dulu)	I once made a mistake in the guest’s order.

Poin Penting yang Harus Dihafal

1. Gunakan Verb 2 untuk semua aktivitas masa lalu.

2. Gunakan was/were untuk keadaan atau deskripsi.

3. Tambahkan keterangan waktu (yesterday, last night, ago, etc.) agar maknanya jelas.

4. Don’t use "did" and Verb 2 together!
   ❌ Did you went yesterday? → ✅ Did you go yesterday?

5. Ingat bentuk irregular verbs — tidak semua Verb 2 berakhiran -ed.
