Sharing Your Ideas

You have something to say! Sometimes in a group setting, though, it is hard for everyone to share their ideas. Ways where everyone has a chance to contribute is to take turns sharing. Everyone should get a turn!

Group Discussion Roles

Each Classmates Has a Role

It helps when everyone knows what their role in the group discussion is. That way everyone knows what is expected of them and what duties they have for the assignment.

Let's take a look at the three we will be using in class!

1. Facilitator

Guides the Discussion

  • Keeps the group focused and on task

  • Ensures everyone has a chance to speak

2. Recorder

Notetaker

  • Takes notes on the groups ideas, decisions, and key points.

  • Writes down contributions in the groups own words--no copying

  • Prepares a summary to share with the class or to complete the worksheet.

3. Questioner

Helps the Group Dig Deep

  • Asks thoughtful questions to help the group think more deeply.

  • Challenges ideas respectfully to encourage critical thinking.

  • Clarifies confusing points by asking for examples or explanations.
